GIS in Agricultural Development - What Can and Can not Be Done? : A Case Study from Lop Buri Province, Thailand

This is a research that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri examined GIS, Geographic Information Systems, for agricultural development in Phatthana Nikom District and Chaibadan Dictrict, Lop Buri Province.

“For sound agricultural development, it is imperative to maintain the quality of physical an biological resources so that they can support continued agricultural production.  Land resources, soils in particular, must be given important consideration for matching the crop cultivation to the soil quality.  The area receives relatively low rainfall and in the absence of adequate irrigation facility, use of high yielding crop varieties, without appropriate land management practices, would lead to further degradation of soil quality, which would put into question the sustainability of agricultural development…"
